Lovely Water Lily

Living in Phnom Penh / Monday, March 21st, 2011

It’s a Monday, the start of a brand new week so I wanted to share something nice for everyone. We have this huge pot in our front yard. We filled it with water and fishes. Now from a couple of fishes we have dozens already. Hubby also added a pot of water lily a few weeks back and I also re-potted a lot of hanging vines all around the area. We also thought of planting a few lotus plants coz the flower is also very lovely but we decided against it coz unlike the lily, lotus plants grow really tall and we don’t have much space. But I love this little nook now and its so zen.

And what we love all the more is that the little water lily has now started to blossom. Here’s the first flower. There’s a couple more buds waiting to bloom too.

Now were thinking of adding one more big pot on one part of the verandah. I would love to have lots of lilies about. For some reason I find this flower really soo exotic, sooo Khmer and very attractive. It must be because its purple or perhaps its so part of the typical Khmer landscape same with the lotus plant/flower?

Happy Monday!

  1. That is a beautiful flower! It’s so… Khmer! I tried growing these flowers in one of our big pots but it died after a few weeks after giving me a few blooms. I was even planning to send a bulb of that lily for my mother to plant in our pond back home. There’s also a lovely purple lily, bagay sa iyo 🙂
